infertility and women's health

Acupuncture and Traditional Eastern Medicine work exceptionally well for all aspects of Women's Health.

Infertility
The benefits of Acupuncture and Traditional Eastern Medicine (TEM)  in treatment for infertile couples can be found in early Chinese medical literature dating back to the 11AD. Not only do these techniques assist in regulating the menstrual cycle and invigorating the sperm, but they also serve to enhance the whole body.

European Research Study proves that acupuncture increases pregnancy rates for women undergoing In-Vitro Fertilization.  The study concludes that acupuncture seems to be a useful tool for improving pregnancy rate after ART. This study has been reported on the national news and in US medical journals, prompting an increase in referrals from medical doctors for the use of acupuncture in IVF procedures.  Two groups totalling 160 subjects, each received a standard in-vitro procedure (IVF). One group, however, also received acupuncture therapy before and after implantation. The non acupuncture in-vitro group had a 26.3% pregnancy rate, while the group of women who received acupuncture showed a 42.5% success rate.

Acupuncture has been clinically proven to:

*Enhance Egg Quality
Test results of clients who have undergone acupuncture have shown that the egg quality significantly improves.

*Enhance the Quality of the Uterine Lining
A healthy uterine lining is necessary to help with embryo implantation and to grow a healthy baby.  Acupuncture improves the flow of healthy blood into the uterus.

*Reduce the Chances of Uterine Contraction After IVF Procedures
Acupuncture relaxes the patient and the uterus so it won't contract and expel the fertilized egg.

Infertility treatment is an option for men and women who haven't been successful with Western Medicine or to be used as an addition to modern medical treatments being undertaken. Dr. Koh's treatments are beneficial as they have minimal side effects and treatments can also reduce the side effects of Western medicines being taken. Current studies  suggest that acupuncture given with embryo transfer improves rates of pregnancy and live birth among women undergoing in-vitro fertilisation. The pregnancy rate of IVF treatment is significantly increased, especially when acupuncture is administered on the day of embryo transfer. The patients body is strengthened and balanced so that IVF, GIFT, ZIFT, ICSI, AHT and TET procedures are more effective. Patients have increased positivity, relaxation and health which increases chances for successful conception.

Pregnancy
Women can be treated during pregnancy for a variety of conditions such as back pain and nausea. Dr Koh has exceptional experience in this area and can make you far more comfortable during these 9 months. Acupuncture treatment during pregnancy benefits both baby and mother - enhancing the health of the mother, preventing complications and influencing the development of the baby.

PMS and Dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps)
PMS is treated with a mixture of correct diet, adequate exercise, and emotional clarity, along with acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs. This can correct imbalances and bring long-term relief. Acupuncture removes energy blockages and in turn stabilizes hormonal fluctuations. It also provides deep relaxation that helps to calm the mind. Chinese herbs work together with acupuncture to regulate the flow of energy and substances in the body. Together they stimulate the body’s natural functions and encourage it to establish optimum balance. Acupuncture in patients with dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps) lessens pain and increases quality of life as compared to treatment with usual care alone. Treatment is painless with many patients experiencing drastic reductions in cramping pain.

Menopause
While menopause is viewed as a disease in Western Medicine, this transitional time for women is viewed very differently in Traditional Eastern Medicine. When a woman is finished with her child bearing years, to conserve the woman's Qi (life force energy), the menstrual cycle ceases. This closing of the "baby making apparatus" allows the woman to retain all of her resources for herself as she ages. TEM can be used to regulate and balance systems throughout the body resulting in an increased sensed of well-being. It can also have an effect on the heart to restore emotional balance. Finally, it can be used to treat specific symptoms like hot flashes, headaches, night sweats and insomnia. A variety of techniques are used including acupuncture, Chinese herbs, bodywork, lifestyle/dietary recommendations and energetic exercises to restore imbalances found in the body. There is an increased interest amongst women in seeking alternatives for hormone replacement therapy because of their fear of side-effects. Acupuncture is effective for curing menopausal symptoms, and is a safe treatment in the hands of well-trained and qualified practitioners such as Dr Koh. Instead, it aims to treat the specific symptoms that are unique to each individual.

In addition, Dr Koh also treats breast lumps, depression, Candidiasis (yeast infections) and other women's health issues. If you have any questions regarding Infertility or women's health please call our office at 661-257-1233 and we will be happy to assist you.
